Neutral Grounding Resistor

Transformer or generator neutrals are grounded through resistors to limit short circuit current. Such resisters are designed for short time currents. When balanced, no current flows through this resistor but on faulty conditions when neutral volts rises to say even line volts this resistance limits short circuit current to ground.

However in special cases the transformer earthling is also used. Illustration is a 3.3 KV neutral Grounding Resistor Panel
